Basic uses light, moderate, or hard training. Advanced lets you choose a more specific karate session type.

Karate Calories Burned Formula

The calculator uses the following formula to calculate calories burned during karate.

CB = BW * M * F

Variables:

  • CB = calories burned (kcal)
  • BW = body weight in kilograms
  • M = time spent doing karate in minutes
  • F = karate factor

Basic mode uses 0.096 for light practice, 0.137 for a moderate class, and 0.180 for hard training. Advanced mode uses 0.096 for kata, 0.114 for drills, 0.137 for a general class, 0.149 for bag or pad work, and 0.180 for sparring.

Typical Karate Calorie Burn

  • 55 kg for 30 minutes: 158 calories light, 226 calories moderate, 297 calories hard
  • 70 kg for 45 minutes: 302 calories light, 432 calories moderate, 567 calories hard
  • 82 kg for 60 minutes: 472 calories light, 674 calories moderate, 886 calories hard

What is Karate?

Karate is a striking martial art built around punches, kicks, footwork, forms, partner drills, pad work, and sparring. Calorie burn rises when classes include more nonstop combinations, faster rounds, and shorter rest periods.

How to Calculate Calories Burned in Karate

  1. Enter your body weight in kilograms.
  2. Enter your karate session length in minutes.
  3. Choose a basic intensity or a specific session type in advanced mode.
  4. Multiply body weight by minutes and the matching karate factor.

Example

Body weight = 70 kg

Time = 45 minutes

Moderate class factor = 0.137

Calories burned = 70 × 45 × 0.137 = 431.55 calories
