Enter the original mileage, current mileage, and the actual distance traveled into the calculator to determine the corrected mileage for your vehicle.

Mileage Correction Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the corrected mileage:

CM = OM + AD - (CM - OM)

Variables:

  • CM is the corrected mileage (miles)
  • OM is the original mileage (miles)
  • AD is the actual distance traveled (miles)
  • CM – OM is the difference between the current mileage and the original mileage (miles)

To calculate the corrected mileage, subtract the difference between the current mileage and the original mileage from the actual distance traveled and add this to the original mileage.

What is Mileage Correction?

Mileage correction is the process of adjusting the mileage reading on a vehicle’s odometer. It is often necessary when the odometer is not reflecting the true distance traveled due to various reasons such as changes in tire size, replacement of the odometer, or discrepancies in the speedometer calibration. It ensures that the vehicle’s mileage accurately represents its usage and can be important for maintenance schedules, resale value, and legal purposes.

How to Calculate Corrected Mileage?

The following steps outline how to calculate the corrected mileage:

  1. First, determine the original mileage (OM) of the vehicle.
  2. Next, determine the current mileage (CM) of the vehicle.
  3. Then, determine the actual distance traveled (AD) since the last known accurate mileage.
  4. Use the formula CM = OM + AD – (CM – OM) to find the corrected mileage.
  5. After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.

Example Problem:

Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.

Original Mileage (OM) = 25,000 miles

Current Mileage (CM) = 27,500 miles

Actual Distance Traveled (AD) = 2,800 miles
