Mole Percent to Weight Percent Formula
The following formula is used to calculate the weight percent from the mole percent.
W = \left( \frac{MP \times MM}{\sum (MP \times MM)} \right) \times 100Variables:
- W% is the weight percent
- MP is the mole percent
- MM is the molar mass of the component
- ∑(MP × MM) is the sum of (mole percent * molar mass of each component)
To calculate the weight percent, multiply the mole percent by the molar mass of the component. Then, divide the result by the sum of (mole percent * molar mass of each component) and multiply by 100 to get the weight percent.

What is Mole Percent?
Mole percent, also known as molar percent, is a way of expressing the concentration of a component in a mixture. It is defined as the number of moles of a component divided by the total number of moles of all components in the mixture, multiplied by 100. Mole percent is commonly used in chemistry to describe the composition of mixtures, solutions, and compounds.
How to Calculate Weight Percent from Mole Percent?
The following steps outline how to calculate the weight percent from the mole percent.
- First, determine the mole percent (MP) of the component.
- Next, determine the molar mass (MM) of the component.
- Next, calculate the sum of (mole percent * molar mass of each component) (∑(MP × MM)).
- Finally, use the formula to calculate the weight percent (W%).
- After inserting the values and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.
Example Problem :
Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.
Mole Percent (MP) = 20%
Molar Mass of Component (MM) = 18 g/mol
Sum of (Mole Percent * Molar Mass of Each Component) (∑(MP × MM)) = 360
