Per Day Formula
The calculator uses one of two formulas depending on the mode you choose.
Per Day = Total Amount / Number of Days
Total = Per Day * Number of Days
- Per Day = the daily rate or share
- Total Amount = the full quantity spread across the period
- Number of Days = the count of days in the period
Amount per day mode. You enter a total and a day count. The calculator divides the total by the days.
Between dates mode. You enter a total, a start date, and an end date. The calculator counts the days between the two dates, then divides. The "elapsed" method does not count the end date. The "inclusive" method counts both the start and end dates, so it adds one day.
Total from per day mode. You enter a daily rate and a day count. The calculator multiplies them to get the total.

Examples and FAQ
Example 1. You spent $1,260 on groceries over 30 days. $1,260 / 30 = $42.00 per day.
Example 2. You drove 980 miles between June 1 and June 15 using the elapsed method (14 days). 980 / 14 = 70 miles per day.
Should I use elapsed or inclusive day count? Use elapsed when you want the time between two points, such as interest accrual or a rental period that ends at checkout. Use inclusive when both endpoints are full active days, such as counting vacation days from Monday through Friday.
Why does the per-day amount change when I switch methods? Inclusive counting adds one day, so the same total is divided across more days. The per-day figure goes down.
Can I use this for non-money values? Yes. Pick the unit you need from the dropdown. The math is the same for calories, miles, hours, pages, or any other quantity that spreads across days.
How many days are in a month for budgeting? Use 30 for quick estimates and 30.44 if you want a closer match to the calendar year. For a specific month, use the exact day count from the calendar.
