Price Per Screw Formula
The price per screw is found by dividing the total price by the total number of screws.
PPS = TP / TS
- PPS = price per screw, in dollars per screw
- TP = total price, in dollars
- TS = total number of screws
The same relationship can be rearranged to solve for the other two values.
TP = PPS * TS
TS = TP / PPS

Example Calculations
Example 1: Find price per screw
You buy a box of 200 screws for $12.00.
PPS = 12 / 200 = 0.06
The price per screw is $0.06.
Example 2: Find total price
You need 350 screws, and each screw costs $0.04.
TP = 0.04 * 350 = 14.00
The total price is $14.00.
FAQs
How do you calculate price per screw?
Divide the total price by the number of screws. For example, if a box costs $15 and contains 300 screws, the price per screw is $15 divided by 300, or $0.05 per screw.
Should tax and shipping be included in the total price?
Include tax and shipping if you want the true final cost per screw. Leave them out if you only want to compare shelf prices between different screw packs.
Why does the calculator show a decimal number of screws?
If you solve for the total number of screws, the result may be a decimal when the numbers do not divide evenly. In real purchases, screws are whole items, so round to the nearest practical pack size.
