Enter the weight before the workout (lbs), the weight after the workout (lbs), the total workout time (hrs), and the water consumed during the workout (lbs) into the Sweat Rate Calculator. The calculator will evaluate the Sweat Rate.

Sweat Rate Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the Sweat Rate.

SWEAT = (WB-WA+WI)/T
  • Where SWEAT is the Sweat Rate (lbs/hr)
  • WB is the weight before the workout (lbs)
  • WA is the weight after the workout (lbs)
  • WI is the water consumed during the workout (lbs)
  • T is the total workout time (hrs)

How to Calculate Sweat Rate?

The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the Sweat Rate.

Example Problem #1

  1. First, determine the weight before workout (lbs).
    • The weight before workout (lbs) is calculated to be : 150.
  2. Next, determine the weight after workout (lbs).
    • The weight after workout (lbs) is measured to be: 145.
  3. Next, determine the water consumed during workout (lbs).
    • The water consumed during workout (lbs) is found to be: 2.
  4. Next, determine the workout time: This is given as 1.5 hrs.
  5. Finally, calculate the Sweat Rate using the formula above:

SWEAT = (WB-WA+WI)/T

The values provided above are inserted into the equation below and computed.

SWEAT = (150-145+2)/1.5 = 4.667 (lbs/hr)

Example Problem #2

The variables required for this problem are provided below:

weight before workout (lbs) = 150

weight after workout (lbs) = 149

water consumed during workout (lbs) = 3

workout time = 1.25

Test your knowledge using the equation and check your answer with the calculator.

SWEAT = (WB-WA+WI)/T = (lbs/hr)
