Water Intake Formula

The following formula is used to calculate your daily water intake needs.

Total Water Intake = .65 * bw + e*.40*df

  • Where total water intake is in ounces
  • bw is your body weight in lbs
  • e is your number of exercise minutes
  • df is the difficulty factor of your exercise

In this case, since the exertion level of your exercise is directly correlated with how much water you loose to sweat, you must add a factor that accounts for that. Please listen to your own body, and drink as much as you feel you need. This is only an estimation.

Another important aspect to keep in mind when considering your daily water intake is electrolytes. If you are working out often, you loose many electrolytes to sweat. Make sure you are drinking enough electrolytes like salt and potassium when exercising to avoid cramps.
