TOEFL Score Formula
The calculator uses the four-section TOEFL scoring model shown below. It can do two useful things: add the four section scores to find the total score, or solve for one missing section score when the total is already known.
T = R + L + S + W
If you know the total and three section scores, you can rearrange the equation to find the missing value:
R = T - L - S - W
L = T - R - S - W
S = T - R - L - W
W = T - R - L - S
This page assumes you are already working with section scores on the standard 0 to 30 scale for Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.

Example Calculations

T = 25 + 22 + 24 + 27 = 98
If your target total is 100 and you already have Reading 26, Listening 25, and Speaking 24, the Writing score needed is:
W = 100 - 26 - 25 - 24 = 25
