Enter your scores for the multiple choice, short answer, DBQ, and LEQ sections to estimate your overall WHAP score. The calculator will provide an AP score from 1 to 5.

WHAP Score Formula

The WHAP score is calculated using the following formula:

WHAP Score = MC + SA + DBQ + LEQ

Where:

  • MC is the number of multiple choice questions answered correctly (out of 55).
  • SA is the total score for the short answer section (out of 9).
  • DBQ is the score for the Document-Based Question (out of 7).
  • LEQ is the score for the Long Essay Question (out of 6).

The total score is then used to determine the WHAP score on a scale from 1 to 5, based on the scoring guidelines provided by the College Board.

What is a WHAP Score?

A WHAP score is the result of the AP World History exam, which assesses a student’s understanding of world history and their ability to think historically. Scores on the AP exam range from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest possible score. Colleges and universities may grant credit or advanced placement for scores of 3, 4, or 5.

How to Calculate Your WHAP Score?

Follow these steps to estimate your WHAP score:

  1. Enter the number of multiple choice questions you answered correctly.
  2. Enter your total score for the short answer section.
  3. Enter your score for the Document-Based Question.
  4. Enter your score for the Long Essay Question.
  5. Click “Calculate” to see your estimated WHAP score.
  6. Use the reset button to clear all fields and calculate a new score.

Example Problem:

Let’s say you answered 40 multiple choice questions correctly, scored a 6 on the short answer section, a 5 on the DBQ, and a 4 on the LEQ. Your total score would be:

MC = 40, SA = 6, DBQ = 5, LEQ = 4

Total Score = MC + SA + DBQ + LEQ = 40 + 6 + 5 + 4 = 55

Based on the scoring guidelines, a total score of 55 would likely result in a WHAP score of 3.
