How do I use this calculator?
This 1/4 Mile RPM Calculator allows you to calculate any of the four variables: Vehicle Speed, Tire Diameter, Gear Ratio, and RPM by entering any three of them.
Calculator Operations:
- Enter the Vehicle Speed, Tire Diameter, and Gear Ratio to calculate the RPM.
- Enter the RPM, Tire Diameter, and Gear Ratio to calculate the Vehicle Speed.
- Enter the Vehicle Speed, RPM, and Gear Ratio to calculate the Tire Diameter.
- Enter the RPM, Vehicle Speed, and Tire Diameter to calculate the Gear Ratio.
Use the Calculate button when all known values have been entered and use the Reset button when you want to clear the values from the calculator.
Enter the vehicle speed, tire diameter, and gear ratio into the calculator to determine the RPM, or leave one of the other fields empty to calculate its value based on the other inputs.
1/4 Mile RPM Formula
The following formula is used to calculate the RPM for a given vehicle speed, tire diameter, and gear ratio.
\text{RPM} = \frac{V \cdot G \dot 336}{D}Variables:
- RPM is the engine speed in revolutions per minute
- V is the vehicle speed in miles per hour (mph)
- D is the tire diameter in inches
- G is the gear ratio
To calculate the RPM, multiply the vehicle speed by the gear ratio and 336, then divide by the tire diameter.
What is a 1/4 Mile RPM?
The 1/4 mile RPM is a measure of the engine speed in revolutions per minute (RPM) when a vehicle is traveling at a certain speed over a quarter-mile distance. This calculation is crucial for understanding the performance of a vehicle, especially in drag racing and other high-speed automotive applications. By knowing the RPM, drivers can optimize their gear shifts and ensure that the engine operates within its optimal power band for maximum performance.
How to Calculate 1/4 Mile RPM?
The following steps outline how to calculate the 1/4 Mile RPM.
- First, determine the vehicle speed (V) in miles per hour (mph).
- Next, determine the tire diameter (D) in inches.
- Next, determine the gear ratio (G).
- Finally, calculate the RPM using the formula RPM = (V * G * 336) / D.
- After inserting the values and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.
Example Problem :
Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.
Vehicle Speed (V) = 100 mph
Tire Diameter (D) = 28 inches
Gear Ratio (G) = 4.10
