How do I use this calculator?
This calculator converts between the time at original speed and the time at 1.5X speed. For the same distance/work, time is inversely proportional to speed, so increasing speed to 1.5× reduces the time to two-thirds.
Calculator Operations:
- Enter the time at 1.5X speed to calculate the time at original speed.
- Enter the time at original speed to calculate the time at 1.5X speed.
- Enter both times to check whether they are consistent with a 1.5X speed change.
Use the calculate button when the needed values have been entered and use the reset button when you want to clear the values from the calculator.
Enter either the time at 1.5X speed or the time at original speed into the calculator to determine the other time.

1.5X Speed Formula
The following formulas apply when the same distance/work is performed and the speed is increased to 1.5× the original speed.
S₁.₅ = 1.5S
T₁.₅ = T₀ / 1.5
T₀ = 1.5T₁.₅
Variables:
- S is the original speed
- S₁.₅ is the speed at 1.5X speed
- T₀ is the time at original speed
- T₁.₅ is the time at 1.5X speed
To calculate the missing time, use the appropriate formula based on the time you know. (Speed cancels out in the time conversion when the distance/work is the same.)
What is 1.5X Speed?
1.5X speed refers to increasing the speed of an activity or process to 1.5 times (150% of) its original speed. This concept is often used in various contexts, such as video playback, where watching a video at 1.5X speed means the video plays 50% faster than its normal speed. Similarly, in transportation or other time-dependent activities (for the same distance/work), 1.5X speed indicates that the process is completed in two-thirds of the original time.
How to Calculate 1.5X Speed?
The following steps outline how to calculate the missing time when dealing with 1.5X speed.
- First, note the original speed (S) if you also want to compute the sped-up speed (optional).
- Next, determine one of the times: time at original speed (T₀) or time at 1.5X speed (T₁.₅).
- If needed, compute the sped-up speed using S₁.₅ = 1.5S.
- Use the appropriate time formula (T₁.₅ = T₀/1.5 or T₀ = 1.5T₁.₅) to calculate the missing time.
- After inserting the values and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.
Example Problem :
Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.
Time at Original Speed (T₀) = 9 units
Time at 1.5X Speed (T₁.₅) = ?
Answer: T₁.₅ = 9 / 1.5 = 6 units
