How the 5K Pace Calculator Works
This fixed-event calculator uses exactly 5,000 meters and adds road checkpoints and standard-track interval equivalents that a general distance calculator does not provide.
Finish-time mode divides seconds by 5,000 meters. Pace mode converts the selected pace to seconds per meter. Every split is calculated directly from the unrounded full-race duration.
5K Pace and Split Formula
Formula: pace = finish time / 5,000 m; interval time = finish time x interval distance / 5,000
A standard 400-meter track requires 12 complete laps plus a final 200 meters for a 5K.

Understanding Your Results
The requested pace or 5K time leads, followed by pace in both units, average speed, and the selected road or track rows.
Track rows are interval equivalents unless labeled cumulative. A real race may vary by lap while preserving the same average.
Worked Example
A 20:00 5K equals 4:00 per kilometer, about 6:26 per mile, 1:36 per 400 meters, and 3:12 per 800 meters.
Common Mistakes
Do not round 5K to three miles, add rounded lap values back into the finish, or confuse an interval equivalent with a required pacing strategy.
Assumptions and Limitations
The calculation assumes a constant average and does not adjust for turns, hills, wind, surface, acceleration, or lane distance.
