How the Assist To Turnover Ratio Calculator Works
AST/TO compares playmaking credited as assists with possessions lost as turnovers. The calculator also reverses the equation for target planning and treats a zero-turnover sample as non-finite instead of displaying a misleading enormous number.
Formula: AST/TO = assists / turnovers
Choosing the Right Inputs
Use assists and turnovers from the same player, team, and time span. Official box-score totals are preferable. A zero-turnover sample has no finite numeric ratio, even when the player records assists.

Understanding Your Results
The result leads with the ratio or requested whole-number target, then shows the underlying totals, assists per turnover, and turnover share when a finite denominator exists.
Worked Example
Eight assists and three turnovers produce 8 / 3 = 2.67 assists per turnover. With four turnovers and a target of 2.5, a player needs at least 10 assists.
Assumptions and Limitations
AST/TO does not credit passes that create advantages without an official assist, and it does not separate aggressive creation from avoidable turnovers. Roles, teammates, pace, scorekeeping, and sample size affect comparisons.
