Cable Tray Fill Formula
The cable tray fill calculation compares the total cross-sectional area of the cables with the usable cross-sectional area of the tray.
- Fill Percentage: the percentage of the tray area occupied by cables.
- Cable Area: the combined cross-sectional area of all cables in the tray.
- Tray Area: the available cross-sectional area of the cable tray.
The calculator can solve for any one missing value as long as you enter the other two. If fill percentage is blank, it divides cable area by tray area and multiplies by 100. If cable area is blank, it multiplies the tray area by the fill percentage as a decimal. If tray area is blank, it divides the cable area by the fill percentage as a decimal.
Area values can be entered in mm², cm², m², in², or ft². The calculator converts the selected units to a common area unit before applying the formula, then converts the result back to the selected output unit.
