Capacity Percentage Formula
The capacity percentage calculator uses the relationship between total capacity, used capacity, and percentage used. Enter any two values to calculate the missing value.
Percentage\ Used = (Used\ Capacity / Total\ Capacity) * 100
- Percentage Used is the portion of total capacity that has been used, expressed as a percent.
- Used Capacity is the amount currently occupied, consumed, filled, or used.
- Total Capacity is the full available capacity.
To solve for used capacity, the formula is rearranged:
Used\ Capacity = Total\ Capacity * (Percentage\ Used / 100)

Example 2: Find used capacity
You have a total capacity of 1.5 million units and 40% is used.

FAQ
What does capacity percentage mean?
Capacity percentage means how much of a total amount is being used. For example, if a warehouse can hold 10,000 items and currently holds 6,000 items, the capacity percentage used is 60%.
Can the used capacity be greater than the total capacity?
Mathematically, yes. If used capacity is greater than total capacity, the percentage used will be over 100%. This usually means the system is over capacity, the total capacity value is too low, or the two capacity values are not measuring the same thing.
Why do the unit selections matter?
The unit selections let you enter values at different scales. For example, you can enter total capacity in millions and used capacity in thousands. The calculator converts both values to the same base unit before calculating the missing value.
