Calculate funnel volume, full capacity, and partial fill from top and bottom openings, height, and selected units like liters or gallons.

Use internal dimensions. Filled height is measured from the bottom.

Partial fill ยท blank uses full capacity

Funnel Volume Formula

For an ideal cone with no bottom opening, the following formula gives its internal volume.

FV = 1 / 3 ร— pi ร— rยฒ ร— h
  • Where FV is the Funnel Volume (in^3)
  • r is the radius of the funnel (in)
  • h is the height of the funnel (in)

For a cone, multiply the radius squared by the height, divide by 3, then multiply by pi. A funnel with a nonzero bottom radius r uses V = ฯ€h(Rยฒ + Rr + rยฒ)/3, where R is its top radius. Partial fill uses the radius at the entered fill height.

How to Calculate Funnel Volume?

The following example problems outline how to calculate Funnel Volume.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the radius of the funnel (in).
    1. The radius of the funnel (in) is given as 3.
  2. Next, determine the height of the funnel (in).
    1. The height of the funnel (in) is provided as 10.
  3. Finally, calculate the Funnel Volume using the equation above:

FV = 1/3*pi*r^2*h

The values given above are inserted into the equation below:

FV = 1/3*pi*3^2*10 โ‰ˆ 94.25 (in^3)

Example Problem #2:

For this problem, the variables needed are provided below:

radius of the funnel (in) = 4

height of the funnel (in) = 69

This example problem is a test of your knowledge on the subject. Use the calculator above to check your answer. FV = 1/3*pi*r^2*h = ?
