Calculator Operations:

Use the number of candidates who appeared in the same GATE paper, year and applicable ranking group as N. These rank-based estimates assume unique ranks; ties and rounded percentiles can affect them. They are not an official GATE score or percentile. The official GATE score uses actual or normalized marks and the published score formula.

GATE Percentile Formula
The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the GATE Percentile.
Variables:
- G is the rank-based percentile estimate (%) under the inclusive convention
- N is the total number of candidates
- R is your current rank
For the inclusive estimate, subtract (rank − 1) from the number of candidates who appeared in the cohort, divide by that candidate count, then multiply by 100. For the strictly-below estimate, use (N − R) / N × 100. Neither expression accounts for ties from rank alone.
How to Calculate GATE Percentile?
The following steps outline how to calculate the GATE Percentile.
- First, determine the total number of candidates.
- Next, determine your current rank.
- Next, gather the formula from above = G% = (N – R + 1) / N * 100.
- Finally, calculate the GATE Percentile.
- After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.
