How do I use this calculator?
The basic portion of this calculator allows you to calculate any of the variables shown directly above.
Calculator Operations:
- Enter the total number of candidates and your current rank to calculate your GATE percentile.
- Enter your current rank and GATE percentile to calculate the total number of candidates.
- Enter the total number of candidates and GATE percentile to calculate your current rank.
Percentile is always relative to the group being ranked (the candidate set). For the most relevant result, use the total number of candidates for your specific GATE paper/stream (cohort) as N.
Use the calculate button when all known values have been entered and use the reset button when you want to clear the values from the calculator.
Calculate GATE percentile, rank, or total candidates from any two inputs using the rank-percentile formula and get the missing value.

GATE Percentile Formula
The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the GATE Percentile.
G = (N - R + 1) / N * 100
Variables:
- G is the GATE Percentile (%)
- N is the total number of candidates
- R is your current rank
To calculate GATE percentile, subtract (your current rank − 1) from the number of candidates, divide by the number of candidates, then multiply by 100.
How to Calculate GATE Percentile?
The following steps outline how to calculate the GATE Percentile.
- First, determine the total number of candidates.
- Next, determine your current rank.
- Next, gather the formula from above = G% = (N – R + 1) / N * 100.
- Finally, calculate the GATE Percentile.
- After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.
Example Problem :
Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.
total number of candidates = 1000
your current rank = 990
G% = (N – R + 1) / N * 100 = ?
