Glute Bridge Calories Burned Formula
The calculator uses the following equation when weight is entered in pounds:
C = (0.65 * BW + AW) * R * 0.001
- C = calories burned
- BW = body weight in pounds
- AW = added weight in pounds
- R = total glute bridge reps
- 0.65 adjusts body weight to the portion of mass typically moved during the rep
- 0.001 is the glute bridge movement factor
In the basic calculator, added weight is set to 0.
What Is a Glute Bridge?
A glute bridge is a floor-based hip extension exercise where you drive your hips upward from a bent-knee position. It mainly trains the gluteus maximus, with help from the hamstrings, adductors, spinal erectors, and core.
What Changes Calories Burned During Glute Bridges?
- Body weight: More body mass usually means more load moved each rep.
- Added resistance: Barbells, dumbbells, plates, and bands increase calories burned per rep.
- Total reps: Session volume matters. Sets of 10 to 20 reps are common, but 60 to 150 total reps will raise the calorie total much more than one short set.
- Tempo: Slower reps and longer pauses at the top increase time under tension.
Example Calculation
A 180 lb person doing 40 weighted glute bridges with 80 lb of added weight would burn:
C = (0.65 * 180 + 80) * 40 * 0.001 = 7.88
That comes out to 7.88 calories. If the same person did 4 similar sets, the workout total would be about 31.52 calories.
