Enter your body weight and golf time to calculate your calories burned playing golf, then choose whether you walk the course or ride in a cart. A 180-lb golfer burns about 823 calories in 2 hours of walking golf or about 600 calories in 2 hours riding in a cart.
Golf Calories Formula
The golf calories calculator uses body weight, golf time, and play style. In the advanced tab, golf time is built from holes played and average minutes per hole.
C = BW \times H \times GF
- C = calories burned
- BW = body weight
- H = golf time in hours
- GF = golf factor based on play style and weight unit
Golf Factors Used in the Calculator
| Play Style | Factor if Weight Is in lb | Factor if Weight Is in kg |
|---|---|---|
| Walking the course / carry clubs | 2.29 per lb per hour | 5.04 per kg per hour |
| Walk with a push cart | 2.05 per lb per hour | 4.52 per kg per hour |
| Ride in a cart | 1.67 per lb per hour | 3.68 per kg per hour |
For a 180-lb golfer, that works out to roughly 412 calories per hour walking and carrying clubs, 369 calories per hour with a push cart, and 300 calories per hour riding in a cart.
Advanced Time Formula
If you use the advanced tab, golf time is calculated from holes played and average minutes per hole.
H = \frac{N \times M}{60}- N = holes played
- M = average minutes per hole
Example Calculations
Basic example: A golfer weighs 180 lb, plays for 4 hours, and walks the course.
C = 180 \times 4 \times 2.29 \approx 1{,}646Advanced example: A golfer weighs 180 lb, plays 18 holes, averages 13 minutes per hole, and uses a push cart.
H = \frac{18 \times 13}{60} = 3.90C = 180 \times 3.90 \times 2.05 \approx 1{,}439Sample Golf Calorie Burns

What Raises Golf Calorie Burn?
- Walking instead of riding: More total movement across the round.
- Carrying clubs instead of using a push cart: More load over the same distance.
- Longer rounds: More time on the course means more calories burned.
- Faster pace: Less standing and more continuous movement.
- Hillier courses: Elevation adds work to each hole.
