Calculate hedge from your inputs, with a result breakdown and worked steps.
Hedge Formula and Method
Opposite stake = original stake × original decimal odds / opposite decimal odds
Enter the original accepted stake and price, then the current price on the opposite outcome. The equal-profit calculation chooses a second stake so the two possible winning returns are identical before subtracting both stakes. Both outcomes are shown so a negative locked result is visible.
How to Use This Calculator
Select the result and any applicable method before entering the visible values. Check the selected record, unit and scoring conventions before calculating. Review the primary result and its breakdown, then open the calculation steps to see how the inputs were used.
Worked Example
With the example inputs in the table, the result is 166.67 USD. Both outcomes have the same unrounded net result.
Input and Example Guide
| Input or category | Example or weight | Entry guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Money unit | U.S. dollars (USD) | Choose the convention that applies to your record. |
| Cash stake (selected currency) | 100 | Use the stated unit; retain available precision. |
| Original price (decimal odds) | 3 | Use the stated unit; retain available precision. |
| Opposite outcome price (decimal odds) | 1.8 | Use the stated unit; retain available precision. |
Interpreting the Result
The opposite selection must complete a two-outcome set for the same settlement. A draw in a three-way market, different overtime treatment, void rules or a changed line can leave an uncovered case. The amount is an arithmetic balance, and cent rounding may prevent exact equality in a real ticket.
The two outcomes must be mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive. Draws, voids, commission and differing settlement rules can invalidate this balance; currency rounding changes exact equality.
Assumptions and Common Input Errors
Both outcomes have the same unrounded net result. Keep the same currency and settlement conditions throughout a scenario. Displayed currency amounts are rounded to two decimals; calculations retain precision unless cent allocation is explicitly described.
Saving and Revising a Scenario
A successful calculation is saved in this browser and can be restored on the next visit. Editing an input clears the old result so it is not mistaken for an updated calculation. Reset returns the example inputs and clears the saved result.
