Enter the current heart rate (BPM) and the max heart rate (BPM) into the Percent Heart Rate Calculator. The calculator will evaluate the Percent Heart Rate.

Percent Heart Rate Formula

The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the Percent Heart Rate.

PHR = CHR / MHR * 100
  • Where PHR is the Percent Heart Rate (%)
  • CHR is the current heart rate (BPM)
  • MHR is the max heart rate (BPM)

To calculate the percent heart rate, divide the current heart rate by the max heart rate, then multiply by 100.

How to Calculate Percent Heart Rate?

The following example problems outline how to calculate Percent Heart Rate.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the current heart rate (BPM).
    • The current heart rate (BPM) is given as: 150.
  2. Next, determine the max heart rate (BPM).
    • The max heart rate (BPM) is provided as: 200.
  3. Finally, calculate the Percent Heart Rate using the equation above:

PHR = CHR / MHR * 100

The values provided above are inserted into the equation below and computed.

PHR = 150 / 200 * 100 = 75.00 (%)

Example Problem #2:

For this problem, the variables required are provided below:

current heart rate (BPM) = 190

max heart rate (BPM) = 210

Test your knowledge using the equation and check your answer with the calculator..

PHR = CHR / MHR * 100 = ?
