Which Rules This Calculator Uses

The rule profile is FEI Jumping Rules, 28th edition, effective 1 January 2026, Table A under Article 217.1. It assigns four penalties to a scored obstacle knockdown, a scored water-jump fault, and the first disobedience. Time beyond the allowance incurs one penalty for each second commenced. A second disobedience, a fall, or another applicable elimination condition supersedes a numeric finishing score.

Count Scored Faults, Not Loose Poles

Enter the number of obstacle knockdown events that the officials score. Several fallen elements at one obstacle do not necessarily create separate four-penalty events. Disobediences accumulate across the round. Do not count a rail displaced during a refusal as a separate knockdown automatically; the circumstances and rules determine the scoring. Use the official fault record when reviewing a completed round.

Use the Final Corrected Time

Enter the official round time including any time correction already applied. A rebuilding delay after certain disobediences can involve a six-second correction under the rulebook procedure. This tool does not add that correction automatically because it is already included in the requested time input. Entering an uncorrected time can understate penalties; adding a correction twice can overstate them.

Commenced-Second Rounding

If the time allowed is 75 seconds, a final time of 75.00 has no time penalty. A time of 75.01 begins the first excess second and incurs one. A time of 76.00 still incurs one, while 76.01 incurs two. The tool reads final times to hundredths of a second and performs the comparison using whole hundredths so that ordinary binary-decimal rounding does not move an exact boundary.

Maximum Time Limit

Article 253 sets the maximum time limit at twice the time allowed when an allowance is specified. With 75 seconds allowed, the limit is 150 seconds. A result strictly greater than that limit is an elimination condition. The displayed record can still show the arithmetic time-penalty subtotal, but the primary result and finishing-score row clearly indicate elimination.

Worked Example

Suppose a round has one scored obstacle knockdown, no water faults, and no disobedience. The time allowed is 75 seconds and the final corrected time is 77.25 seconds. The obstacle contributes four penalties. The excess is 2.25 seconds, so three seconds have commenced beyond the allowance. The total is 4 + 3 = 7 penalties. The result is well within the 150-second maximum time limit.

Elimination Takes Precedence

Select any other recorded elimination in the final control. The available choices include a fall, an uncorrected course deviation, unauthorized assistance, or another decision by the officials. If two disobediences are entered or the maximum time limit is exceeded, the tool also identifies elimination automatically. A displayed subtotal after elimination is informational and must not be used as a completed-round score.

What the Tool Does Not Decide

The calculator summarizes one Table A round. It does not apply Table C seconds-based scoring, specialist national rules, jump-off qualification, two-phase aggregation, or tie-breaking procedures. The official schedule determines the competition format and how time is used for placing. Officials determine whether an incident is a scored fault and whether an elimination rule applies.
