How the Wedge Gapping Calculator Works
The calculator orders wedges by loft, then measures loft spacing and full-swing carry spacing as separate questions. Analyze mode flags tight, useful, wide, and inverted gaps; planning mode places one candidate wedge at the midpoint of a known opening.
Formula: Loft gap = higher loft – lower loft; carry gap = longer carry – shorter carry
Choosing the Right Inputs
Use measured carry rather than total distance. Gather each number with the same ball and broadly similar conditions. Enter the loft stamped or measured for the club and include a short label such as PW, GW, SW, or LW.

Understanding Your Results
The result hierarchy starts with average carry gap or the planned midpoint wedge. Pair-by-pair rows then show loft gap, carry gap, both status labels, and the largest and smallest carry gaps.
Worked Example
Wedges at 46°, 50°, 54°, and 58° carrying 125, 112, 99, and 86 yards create three four-degree loft gaps and three 13-yard carry gaps, all within the common guide bands.
Assumptions and Limitations
The bands are fitting guides, not laws. Delivery, sole design, ball, partial swings, turf, and personal shot preference matter. A fitted gapping session may support intentionally uneven lofts when the measured carries work.
