Calculate putts per round or solve backward for total putts or rounds, with optional per-hole and 18-hole normalization.
How the Putts Per Round Calculator Works
The primary equation is reversible, so the calculator can find average, total putts, or rounds. Optional hole counts create a putts-per-hole value and a comparable 18-hole equivalent for partial or mixed-length samples.
Formula: Putts per round = total putts / completed rounds
Choosing the Right Inputs
Use completed rounds for the basic average. If the sample contains partial or nine-hole rounds, enter total holes so the 18-hole equivalent remains meaningful. Keep your definition of a putt consistent across the sample.
| Metric | Formula | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Putts per round | Total putts / rounds | Complete rounds of equal length |
| Putts per hole | Total putts / holes | Mixed or partial rounds |
| 18-hole equivalent | Putts per hole x 18 | Comparable normalized rate |
Understanding Your Results
The requested value appears first. Supporting results show all three equation variables and, when holes are entered, putts per hole, 18-hole equivalent, one-putt rate, and three-plus-putt rate.
Worked Example
A golfer with 115 putts over four rounds averages 28.75 putts per round. Forty-five putts over 27 holes equals 1.667 per hole, or a 30.0-putt 18-hole equivalent.
Assumptions and Limitations
Raw putting totals are affected by greens hit, proximity, green size, and whether shots from the fringe are classified as putts. Use trends within one tracking method instead of treating a universal benchmark as a diagnosis.
