Schedule Adherence Formula
The schedule adherence calculation compares the time actually worked to the time scheduled. The calculator converts time values to minutes before calculating, so you can enter time in seconds, minutes, or hours.
- SA = schedule adherence percentage
- TW = total time worked
- TS = total time scheduled
If schedule adherence is the missing value, the calculator divides total time worked by total time scheduled, then multiplies by 100.
- TW = total time worked
- SA = schedule adherence percentage
- TS = total time scheduled
If total time worked is missing, the calculator multiplies the scheduled time by the adherence rate as a decimal.
- TS = total time scheduled
- TW = total time worked
- SA = schedule adherence percentage
If total time scheduled is missing, the calculator divides the worked time by the adherence rate as a decimal. Total time scheduled cannot be zero when calculating adherence, and schedule adherence cannot be zero when calculating scheduled time.
Schedule Adherence Result Ranges
| Schedule adherence | Meaning | Common interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Less than 100% | Worked less time than scheduled | Under-adherence or missed scheduled time |
| 100% | Worked exactly the scheduled time | Exact adherence |
| Greater than 100% | Worked more time than scheduled | Over-adherence, overtime, or extra logged time |
Time Unit Conversions Used
| Input unit | Converted to minutes |
|---|---|
| Seconds | seconds ÷ 60 |
| Minutes | minutes × 1 |
| Hours | hours × 60 |
Example Problems
Example 1: Calculate schedule adherence
You worked 7.5 hours and were scheduled for 8 hours.
Your schedule adherence is 93.75%.
Example 2: Calculate total time worked
Your schedule adherence was 95%, and you were scheduled for 480 minutes.
Your total time worked is 456 minutes, or 7.6 hours.
FAQ
What does schedule adherence mean?
Schedule adherence measures how closely actual worked time matches scheduled time. A result of 100% means the worked time equals the scheduled time. A result below 100% means less time was worked than scheduled. A result above 100% means more time was worked than scheduled.
Can schedule adherence be over 100%?
Yes. Schedule adherence can be over 100% if total time worked is greater than total time scheduled. For example, working 9 hours on an 8-hour schedule gives an adherence of 112.5%.
Why does the calculator require exactly one empty field?
The formula needs two known values to solve the third. If more than one field is empty, there is not enough information to calculate a result. If all three fields are filled, there is no missing value to solve for.
