Burpee Calorie Formula
Calories per burpee = Body weight (lb) × 0.00324
Total calories = Reps × Calories per burpee
Reps for goal = Target calories ÷ Calories per burpee
- Body weight in pounds (kg is converted at 1 kg = 2.2046 lb)
- Reps = burpees completed, or pace × active minutes
- 0.00324 = kcal per burpee per pound of body weight, derived from a MET of about 8 for vigorous calisthenics at roughly 10 burpees per minute
The estimate assumes standard bodyweight burpees with continuous effort. Added load, jump height, push-up depth, and rest intervals all shift the real number. Only count active burpee time, not total workout time.
Typical Values
Use these tables to sanity-check the calculator output before you commit to a workout.
| Body weight | Per burpee | 10 burpees | 100 burpees |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120 lb (54 kg) | 0.39 kcal | 3.9 kcal | 39 kcal |
| 155 lb (70 kg) | 0.50 kcal | 5.0 kcal | 50 kcal |
| 185 lb (84 kg) | 0.60 kcal | 6.0 kcal | 60 kcal |
| 220 lb (100 kg) | 0.71 kcal | 7.1 kcal | 71 kcal |
| Pace | Effort | Reps in 10 min |
|---|---|---|
| 6 / min | Easy, sustainable | 60 |
| 8 / min | Steady | 80 |
| 10 / min | Moderate, typical workout | 100 |
| 12 / min | Fast, hard to hold | 120 |
| 15 / min | Sprint, short bursts | 150 |
Worked Example and FAQ
Example. You weigh 170 lb and finish 75 burpees. Calories per burpee = 170 × 0.00324 = 0.551 kcal. Total = 0.551 × 75 ≈ 41 kcal.
How many burpees burn 100 calories? At 155 lb, about 200 burpees. At 185 lb, about 167. Heavier bodies burn more per rep.
Are burpees a good way to lose weight? They burn calories quickly and recruit nearly every major muscle, but volume matters. Even at a fast pace, 10 minutes of burpees burns roughly 50 to 80 kcal for most adults.
Why is my number lower than the apps say? Many trackers count total session time including rest. This calculator uses active burpee time, which is shorter and more accurate for the work you actually did.
Does form change the burn? Yes. Full burpees with a push-up and jump burn more than half-burpees. The formula assumes a standard full burpee.
