The coal cost calculator uses the relationship between total coal quantity, total coal cost, and cost per unit of coal.
- CC = total coal cost, in dollars
- TU = total units of coal
- CPU = cost per unit of coal

- If you enter total units of coal and cost per unit, it calculates the total coal cost.
- If you enter total coal cost and cost per unit, it calculates the total units of coal.

Quantity and price may use different mass units; the calculator reconciles them before solving. The original ton unit means a metric tonne (1,000 kg), retained as the default. US short tons (2,000 lb) and long tons (2,240 lb) are separately labeled options.

Yes. You can enter the coal quantity in tons, kilograms, or pounds. You can also enter the price as dollars per ton, dollars per kilogram, or dollars per pound. The calculator converts the units before solving the missing value.
Why do I need to enter exactly 2 values?
The formula relates quantity, total cost, and unit price. Choose one to solve for, then supply the other two. An inverse calculation needs a positive price or quantity as its divisor. Zero total cost is valid; negative quantities or costs are rejected.
