The following equation is used to calculate the Cost Per Occupied Room.

CPOR = C / OR
  • Where CPOR is the cost per occupied room-night ($/room-night)
  • C is the operating cost included in your calculation for the selected period ($). Use the same cost scope when comparing scenarios.
  • OR is the occupied room-nights in that period: sum the occupied rooms for each night. For a one-day calculation, this is the number of occupied rooms that night.

Divide the operating costs by occupied room-nights for the same period. Available room-nights equal available rooms multiplied by days when room inventory is constant; occupied room-nights equal available room-nights multiplied by occupancy rate. The calculator does not assume an industry benchmark range.
