Degree of Saturation Formula
The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the Degree of Saturation.
DOS = WV / VV * 100
Variables:
- DOS is the Degree of Saturation (%)
- WV is the total volume of water in the soil (ft^3)
- VV is the total volume of voids in the soil (ft^3)
To calculate the degree of saturation, divide the total water volume by the total volume of voids.
How to Calculate Degree of Saturation?
The following steps outline how to calculate the Degree of Saturation.
- First, determine the total volume of water in the soil (ft^3).
- Next, determine the total volume of voids in the soil (ft^3).
- Next, gather the formula from above = DOS = WV / VV * 100.
- Finally, calculate the Degree of Saturation.
- After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.
Example Problem :
Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.
total volume of water in the soil (ft^3) = 50
total volume of voids in the soil (ft^3) = 100
DOS = WV / VV * 100 = ?
