Degree of Saturation Formula

The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the Degree of Saturation.

DOS = WV / VV * 100

Variables:

  • DOS is the Degree of Saturation (%)
  • WV is the total volume of water in the soil (ft^3) 
  • VV is the total volume of voids in the soil (ft^3) 

To calculate the degree of saturation, divide the total water volume by the total volume of voids.
