Engagement Date Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the engagement date for a given proposal date and a specified number of days after the proposal.

E = P + D

Variables:

  • E is the engagement date
  • P is the proposal date
  • D is the number of whole days after the proposal date (D = 0 means the same date)

To calculate the engagement date, add the number of days (D) to the proposal date (P). This gives the engagement date (E).

What is an Engagement Date?

An engagement date is the date on which a couple officially agrees to get married (often the proposal/acceptance date). For many couples, the proposal date and engagement date are the same. In some situations, a proposal may be made on one date and the acceptance or an “official engagement” (such as a public announcement or engagement ceremony) may happen later; in that case, the engagement date can be later than the proposal date. In this calculator, the “engagement period (days)” is simply the number of whole days between the proposal date and the engagement date.

How to Calculate Engagement Date?

The following steps outline how to calculate the Engagement Date.

  1. First, determine the proposal date (P).
  2. Next, determine the number of days after the proposal date (D).
  3. Finally, calculate the engagement date using the formula E = P + D.
  4. After inserting the values and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.
