Enter the total number of gallons in the pool and the pool flow rate (gallons/min) into the Pool Turnover Rate Calculator. The calculator will evaluate the Pool Turnover Rate.

Pool Turnover Rate Formula

The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the Pool Turnover Rate.

PTR = G / FR/60
  • Where PTR is the Pool Turnover Rate (hours)
  • #G is the total number of gallons in the pool
  • FR is the pool flow rate (gallons/min)

To calculate the pool turnover rate, divide the gallons of water in the pool by the pool flow rate.

How to Calculate Pool Turnover Rate?

The following example problems outline how to calculate Pool Turnover Rate.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the total number of gallons in the pool.
    • The total number of gallons in the pool is given as: 20,000.
  2. Next, determine the pool flow rate (gallons/min).
    • The pool flow rate (gallons/min) is provided as: 300.
  3. Finally, calculate the Pool Turnover Rate using the equation above:

PTR = #G / (FR/60)

The values provided above are inserted into the equation below and computed.

PTR = 20,000 / 300/60 = 1.11 (hours)

Example Problem #2:

For this problem, the variables required are provided below:

total number of gallons in the pool = 30,000

pool flow rate (gallons/min) = 100

Test your knowledge using the equation and check your answer with the calculator..

PTR = #G / FR/60 = ?
