The displayed age bands are this calculator’s inherited starting guideline, not a universal competition rule. Historical U.S. Soccer small-sided guidance names U6–U8 for size 3 and U9–U12 for size 4; those seasonal division labels do not automatically equal a player’s age today.
How the Calculation Works
The calculator applies the displayed age lookup to completed whole years from 3 through 99. That range is a tool support limit, not an age limit for playing soccer. It reports a starting ball size, the entered age and the matching guideline band.

Assumptions and Limitations
National associations may modify the ball for youth and other specified categories, so sizes can differ by jurisdiction and competition. IFAB Law 2 specifies a circumference of 68–70 cm and a mass of 410–450 g at the start of a standard adult match; those metric ranges are not inferred from player age. This outdoor association-football guideline does not select futsal, weighted or specialist training balls.
Common Questions
Does my current age determine my seasonal division?
No. The calculator uses completed age only for its displayed equipment guideline. A league’s seasonal age groups can use a specific cutoff date and different rules; confirm the current division and ball requirement with that program.
Will my last successful calculation be restored?
Yes. A successful calculation saves its input in this browser, and the result is recomputed when restored. Edits retain the previous result until Calculate succeeds. Reset clears this calculator’s saved state.
