Strike Rate Formula

The following formula is used to calculate a strike rate.

SR = \frac{RS}{BF} \times 100
  • Where SR is the strike rate (%)
  • RS is the number of runs scored
  • BF is the number of balls faced

To calculate a strike rate, divide the number of runs scored by the number of balls faced, then multiply by 100.

What is a strike rate?

Definition

In cricket, a batter’s strike rate is the number of runs scored per 100 balls faced. It describes how quickly a batter scores, not the probability of scoring on any single ball.

How to calculate strike rate?

Example Problem:

The following example outlines how to calculate a strike rate.

First, determine the total number of balls faced. In this example, over the previous season, the player faced 500 balls.

Next, determine the total number of runs scored in the same period. In this case, the total runs scored is 50.

Finally, calculate the strike rate using the formula above:

SR = RS / BF * 100

SR = 50 / 500 * 100

SR = 10 %
