Table Tennis Rating Formula or Method
The published USATT singles points-exchange chart assigns a discrete gain or loss from the absolute rating difference and which player won. Equal ratings are an equal-rated match, not a favored or upset result; the raw chart exchange is 8 points either way.
How the Calculation Works
The raw chart change is the signed exchange before any loss protection. In the official Final Pass, a player rated strictly below 100 may lose at most 3 points per match. Here, any displayed capped change illustrates that rule using the entered rating; wins are not capped by this loss rule. The raw exchange and the conditionally applied change must therefore be distinguished.

Worked Example

Interpreting the Result
Use USATT singles ratings from the same processing context. This is a discrete chart lookup, not an Elo logistic formula, a K-factor adjustment or a win-probability prediction. It estimates only the entered player; loss protection can prevent equal-and-opposite applied changes. No resulting-rating floor is imposed here, so the arithmetic estimate can be negative without claiming that it is an official post-event rating.
Assumptions and Limitations
Official USATT event processing establishes ratings for unrated players and adjusts underrated players before its Final Pass. The under-100 loss protection belongs to that final processing stage, after those adjustments; a pre-event rating alone does not establish official eligibility. This tool is a single-match chart-stage estimate using the entered ratings, not the complete official event calculation.
On October 19, 2026, USATT announced doubles ratings beginning with doubles play at the December 16–21, 2026 US Open, together with future hardbat and sandpaper ratings. Those announced expansions are separate from this singles estimator and are not implemented here.
