Enter the spring rate (N/m) and the total lift (m) into the calculator to determine the Valve Spring Pressure.

Valve Spring Pressure Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the Valve Spring Pressure.

Pvalve = K / L
  • Where Pvalve is the Valve Spring Pressure (N/m^2)
  • K is the spring rate (N/m)
  • L is the total lift (m)

To calculate the valve spring pressure, divide the spring rate by the total lift.

How to Calculate Valve Spring Pressure?

The following two example problems outline how to calculate the Valve Spring Pressure.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the spring rate (N/m). In this example, the spring rate (N/m) is given as 100.
  2. Next, determine the total lift (m). For this problem, the total lift (m) is given as 5.
  3. Finally, calculate the Valve Spring Pressure using the equation above:

Pvalve = K / L

Inserting the values from above and solving the equation:

Pvalve =100 / 5  = 20 (N/m^2)

Example Problem #2:

Using the same process as above, first define the variables required by the formula. In this case, these values are:

spring rate (N/m) = 200

total lift (m) = .8

Entering these values yields:

Pvalve = 200/ .8  = 250 (N/m^2)
