Choose Comparable Elapsed Times
Enter 1 to 100 recorded full-pass elapsed times in seconds, separated by commas, spaces, or semicolons. Use a decimal point and omit minutes:seconds notation. Reaction time is separate from elapsed time and should not be added to these inputs. Keep distance, vehicle setup, and pass selection consistent. A lifted pass or a pass with a clear interruption can materially change the reference. No entered pass is automatically removed.
Mean, Median, or Fastest
The mean uses all recorded times and is affected by unusually slow or quick passes. The median is the middle ordered time, averaging the middle pair for an even number of passes. Fastest uses the lowest time in the record. With 12.10, 12.14, and 12.12 seconds, the mean and median are both 12.12 seconds, while fastest is 12.10 seconds. The tool presents these alternatives rather than assigning an automatic weather or track adjustment.
Apply a Signed Adjustment
The adjustment is added to the selected reference. Adding 0.02 seconds to a 12.12-second reference gives a 12.14-second dial. Subtracting 0.02 gives 12.10 seconds. A numerically larger dial is slower. Running quicker than the dial is a breakout in ordinary breakout-based bracket rules, subject to the event rules and other infractions. A larger dial can therefore expose more of the recorded passes to a breakout comparison.
Compare Past Passes after Rounding
Choose hundredths or thousandths of a second. The calculator rounds the adjusted reference first, then counts recorded passes that were quicker than, equal to, or slower than that rounded value. At a 12.120 dial, the example contains one quicker pass, one equal pass, and one slower pass. At 12.140, two were quicker and one equal. These counts describe the supplied record; they are not forecasts or probabilities for the next pass.
How the Dial Relates to Competition
In handicap racing, the difference between dial values can determine the starting head start. A reference from past elapsed times is only one input into selecting a dial. Official class rules, timing precision, lane conditions, and the particular competition format govern its use. This tool does not calculate a race winner, reaction-time advantage, double-breakout outcome, or weather correction. It cannot infer the next pass from a small set of previous passes.
Input and Result Limits
Recorded times must be positive and no more than 86,400 seconds. The signed adjustment is limited to −10 through +10 seconds, and the adjusted, rounded result must remain positive. Population standard deviation summarizes the entered record. With one pass it is zero because the record contains no observed variation; that does not establish that future passes will repeat exactly.
