Enter the total frequency in hertz and the wave speed into the calculator to determine the nano-meters (NM). This calculator can also determine the frequency or velocity given the other values are known.

Hertz to NM Formula

The following formula is used to convert a frequency in hertz into a length of nanometers.

w = V / f * 10^9
  • Where w is the wave length (nano-meters)
  • V is the wave velocity (m/s)
  • f is the frequency (hz)

To calculate nanometers from hertz, divide the wave velocity by the frequency, then multiply by 10 to the power of 9.

How are hertz converted into NM?

Hertz can be converted to nanometers only when the velocity of the wave is also known. Fortunately, the wave speed is nearly always the same as the speed of light which is 299,792,458 m/s.

Using the velocity or wave speed and the frequency, the hertz frequency can be converted into nano-meters (NM).

How to calculate nm from hertz?

Example Problem

The following example outlines the steps needed to convert hertz into nm.

First, determine the velocity or speed of the wave. In this case we will use the standard of the speed of light = 299792458 m/s.

Next, determine the frequency of the wave in hertz. The total number of hertz, in this case, is measured to be 500.

Finally, calculate the nanometers using the formula above:

w = V / f / 10^9

w = 299792458/ 500 * 10^9

w = 5.995 E ^ 14 N-M.
