How the Strength Standards Calculator Works
This calculator compares the squat, bench press, and deadlift on the same body-weight scale. Rate mode accepts tested one-rep maxes or estimates each max from a recent low-rep working set. Target mode reverses the thresholds and shows the loads associated with a selected standard.
A lift’s ratio is its one-rep max divided by body weight. Working sets use the mean of the Epley and Brzycki estimates so the result does not depend on a single regression. The earned level is the highest threshold met, while the next-level result turns the comparison into a concrete load gap.
Strength Standards Formula
Formula: Strength ratio = 1RM / body weight; target load = body weight × standard threshold
Because numerator and denominator use the same unit, the ratio is identical in pounds or kilograms. A big-three total is shown only when squat, bench, and deadlift are all entered, preventing a partial total from appearing complete.
Choosing the Right Inputs
Use body weight measured in the same unit as the lifts. A tested 1RM should be a successful full-range single. For working-set mode, enter a challenging set of 1 to 10 consistent repetitions. Empty lift pairs are allowed, but a weight without reps or reps without weight is rejected.

Understanding Your Results
The primary result is the estimated big-three total when all lifts are present. Each lift then receives its own 1RM, body-weight ratio, level, next threshold, and remaining load gap. The lowest earned level highlights the first lift to inspect without treating unlike raw ratios as directly interchangeable.
Use the bands to track one lifter under consistent technique rather than to declare an absolute ranking. Equipment, range of motion, competition rules, training history, and body proportions can change what a given ratio represents.
Worked Example
A 200 lb male reference with a 300 lb squat, 200 lb bench, and 350 lb deadlift has ratios of 1.50x, 1.00x, and 1.75x. Each lands at Intermediate, the total is 850 lb, and the Advanced targets are 400, 300, and 450 lb.
Common Mistakes
Do not mix pounds and kilograms, enter a leg-press number as a squat, or combine tested singles with unrelated high-rep estimates. When comparing dates, keep technique, equipment, and range of motion consistent.
Assumptions and Limitations
The level thresholds are transparent site-defined reference bands, not measured population percentiles. Estimated 1RMs vary by exercise, fatigue, effort, and repetition endurance, so a clean low-rep set is more useful than a casual high-rep set.
