For a quick workout calculation, calories burned are driven by body weight, total workout time, and effort level.

C = W * T * F

Variables:

  • C = calories burned
  • W = body weight
  • T = total workout time in minutes
  • F = effort factor based on workout intensity

In Advanced Intervals mode, the calculator first builds your total workout time from the interval structure.

T = ((WS + RS) * R * S / 60) + ((S - 1) * B)
  • WS = work seconds
  • RS = rest seconds
  • R = rounds per set
  • S = total sets
  • B = rest between sets in minutes

Tabata / HIIT Quick Facts

  • Classic Tabata uses 20 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest.
  • 8 rounds equals 4 total minutes.
  • 16 rounds equals 8 total minutes.
  • Two classic 4-minute sets with a 1-minute break total 9 minutes.
  • Longer work intervals and shorter rest periods raise calories per minute.
