How the Incline Treadmill Walking Calorie Calculator Works
This calculator applies the ACSM walking metabolic equation to body mass, steady walking speed, and the treadmill’s percent incline. It converts oxygen cost into gross and active calories.
Formula: VO2 = 0.1S + 1.8Sg + 3.5, where S is speed in meters per minute and g is fractional grade
What the Results Show
The primary result is gross calories or required treadmill time. Supporting results include active calories, calorie rate, distance, MET, oxygen cost, level calories, and calories attributable to incline in the model.
Why This Calculator Is Different
Speed and grade are calculated continuously and compared with the same speed at 0% incline. The tool does not substitute a fixed treadmill MET lookup.
Assumptions and Limitations
The walking equation is most appropriate for steady walking from 1.9 to 3.7 mph. Constant and accurate treadmill grade is assumed. Handrail support, interval changes, gait transition, fitness, and machine calibration are not modeled.
