Calculate overall or distance-band field goal percentage from makes and attempts, or find how many consecutive makes are needed to reach a target percentage.

Field Goal Percentage Formula

Field goal percentage measures made field goals as a share of field goal attempts:

Field Goal Percentage = (Field Goals Made) / (Field Goals Attempted) × 100

Extra points are tracked separately and should not be included in either field goal total.

Overall Makes and Attempts

Overall mode is the fastest workflow. Enter a kicker’s total field goals made and attempted for the same span, such as one game, a season, or a career. The calculator reports percentage, misses, and make-to-miss ratio.

Field Goal Percentage by Distance

Distance-band mode accepts the same six bands displayed in NFL kicking statistics: 1-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 or more yards. It reports each band’s record and percentage, then sums all bands for the overall result.

Use zero makes and zero attempts for an unused band. A band with no attempts is labeled clearly instead of showing a misleading zero percent.

Consecutive Makes Needed for a Target

Target mode assumes each new attempt is successful and finds the smallest whole number of consecutive makes needed:

(Current Makes + n) / (Current Attempts + n) ≥ Target Rate

Solving for n gives the unrounded requirement. The calculator rounds up because a fraction of a made kick is not possible. If the current percentage already meets the target, the answer is zero.

Why 100 Percent Can Be Unreachable

After at least one miss, adding successful attempts can move the percentage closer to 100 but never make the fraction exactly 100 percent. The calculator therefore rejects a 100 percent target when the current record contains a miss.

Example

A kicker who makes 30 of 34 field goal attempts has an 88.24 percent rate. A kicker at 20 of 25, or 80 percent, would need to make the next 25 attempts to reach exactly 45 of 50, or 90 percent.

Data Consistency and Limitations

  • Makes and attempts must cover the same games and competition level.
  • Blocked or nullified plays should follow the definitions used by the selected statistics provider.
  • Raw percentage does not adjust for distance, weather, venue, game situation, or kick difficulty.
  • A distance-band total is only comparable to an overall stat when every attempt is assigned consistently.
