Mars weight = Earth weight Ă— (g_mars / g_earth) = Earth weight Ă— 0.3771
- Earth weight — your weight on a scale on Earth (lb, kg, or st)
- g_mars — gravitational acceleration on Mars, 3.721 m/s²
- g_earth — gravitational acceleration on Earth, 9.80665 m/s²
- Ratio — 3.721 / 9.80665 ≈ 0.3771
If you have mass instead of weight, the force on Mars is:
W_mars (N) = mass (kg) Ă— 3.721
To go from a Mars weight back to its Earth equivalent, divide by 0.3771 instead of multiplying. The calculator assumes standard surface gravity values and ignores small variations across Mars (gravity ranges from about 3.69 to 3.74 m/s² depending on latitude and elevation).

Example. You weigh 165 lb on Earth. Multiply by 0.3771: 165 Ă— 0.3771 = 62.2 lb on Mars. Your mass does not change. It is still about 74.8 kg.
Why is Mars gravity weaker? Mars has about 11% of Earth's mass and a smaller radius. The combination gives a surface gravity of roughly 38% of Earth's.
Does my mass change on Mars? No. Mass is the amount of matter in an object and stays the same anywhere. Only weight, the force gravity exerts on that mass, changes.
Would I be stronger on Mars? Lifting a given object would require about 38% of the force it takes on Earth. Your muscles, however, would adapt to the lower load over time, which is one reason long Mars stays raise health concerns.
What about a bathroom scale on Mars? A spring or strain-gauge scale measures force, so it would read about 0.38 of your Earth value. A balance scale that compares masses would read the same as on Earth.
