Calculate potato field yield, whole potato conversion, and farm profitability from acreage, spacing, sample weight, price, and costs.

Estimates from your harvest, sample and cost assumptions. Use planted area excluding paths. US cwt = 100 lb; US ton = 2,000 lb; t = 1,000 kg. Sample yield assumes representative plants and uniform spacing. Prices are USD.

100% includes the entire sample estimate; reduce for unsaleable tubers.

Potato Yield Formula

Use measured harvested weight and area for yield, or estimate field yield from representative sample plants and spacing. Whole-potato conversion and profitability use your entered waste, recipe, price and cost assumptions.

PY = WP / A

Variables:

  • PY is the Potato Yield (metric tonnes/hectare, t/ha)
  • WP is the total harvested mass in metric tonnes (1 t = 1,000 kg)
  • A is the total area of harvest (hectare)

To calculate potato yield, divide the weight of potatoes harvested by the total area.

How to Calculate Potato Yield?

The following steps outline how to calculate the Potato Yield.

  1. First, determine the total harvested mass in metric tonnes.
  2. Next, determine the total area of harvest (hectare).
  3. Next, gather the formula from above = PY = WP / A.
  4. Finally, calculate the Potato Yield.
  5. After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.

Example Problem :

Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.

total weight of potatoes harvested (metric tonnes) = 50

total area of harvest (hectare) = 3

PY = WP / A = 50 รท 3 โ‰ˆ 16.666667 t/ha. Select measured harvested yield, metric tonnes and hectares. US tons and US hundredweights are different units: 2,000 lb and 100 lb respectively.
