Count all participating teams or individual entrants, then choose how often each pair meets. A single cycle is one meeting per pair; home-and-away play is two. Each game belongs to two teams, which is why multiplying entrants by opponents requires division by two.

Interpreting the Result
Scheduling rounds assume no entrant plays more than once in a round. An odd field leaves one entrant idle in each round; an even field can play without byes. The reported rounds are an ideal structure, not a booking calendar: limited courts, travel and minimum rest can increase the number of dates needed.
A scheduling round permits at most one game per team. Venue limits and rest requirements can make the calendar longer.
Assumptions and Common Input Errors
Every pair meets the specified number of times. Use credited records rather than mixing estimates with final totals. A blank field is not treated as zero; enter zero explicitly when it is a valid observation.
