Estimate gross snowshoeing calories, active duration, or equation-implied body weight using published moderate and vigorous MET values—without an invented snow-depth multiplier.
Snowshoeing MET Calorie Equation
The calculator applies 5.3 MET to ordinary moderate snowshoeing and 10.0 MET only to the clearly labeled vigorous option.
How the Calculation Works
The selected output is hidden, disabled, cleared, and made non-required. Only the source values needed for that mode remain visible.
How to Use This Calculator
- Select the result you want in the Solve for menu.
- Enter only the visible source values and their explicit units.
- Select Calculate and review the estimate and substituted steps.
- Use Reset before starting a different scenario.
Worked Example
At 5.3 MET, a 70 kg person snowshoeing for 60 active minutes has an estimated gross expenditure of 389.6 kcal.
Input and Result Guide
| Item | How to use it |
|---|---|
| 5.3 MET | Moderate snowshoeing on an ordinary route. |
| 10.0 MET | Vigorous snowshoeing such as sustained steep, deep, or fast travel. |
| Active time | Count moving activity time rather than the full outing. |
| No depth multiplier | Select the closest published activity category instead of multiplying for snow depth. |
Interpreting the Result
The two choices are intentionally broad. If an outing alternates between them, calculate each active segment separately and add the gross-calorie estimates.
Assumptions and Limitations
Trail breaking, load, grade, snow consistency, altitude, poles, technique, fitness, and individual physiology all affect actual expenditure beyond a population-average MET.
Common Questions
Why did an input disappear when I changed Solve for?
The hidden field is the requested output. Enter the remaining visible values and the calculator will solve for that target.
Will my last successful calculation be restored?
Yes. The calculator saves enabled source values and the successful result in this browser. Reset clears that saved state.
