How the Sumo To Conventional Deadlift Calculator Works
This tool labels its factor as sumo divided by conventional. Personal mode derives that factor from one matched pair. The opt-in study method uses the ratio of the reported 2019 group means, 116.4 divided by 115.6.
The study value is near parity at the group level and is not an individual prediction. Personal calibration remains the visible default because body proportions, stance, skill, footwear, bar type, and judging standard can change an individual style difference.
Sumo and Conventional Deadlift Formula
Formula: factor = sumo / conventional; estimated sumo = conventional x factor; estimated conventional = sumo / factor
The study reference factor is exactly 116.4 / 115.6. A reverse user interval swaps endpoints: sumo divided by the upper factor is the low conventional estimate, while division by the lower factor is the high estimate.
Choosing Comparable Inputs
Use tested 1RMs or matched 2-to-10-rep maximums in personal or manual mode. The published study reference is restricted to tested 1RM. Record the same straps, footwear, bar, and lockout rules across the personal pair.

Understanding Your Results
The result hierarchy shows the estimated style load, raw and rounded values, any user-defined range, factor, method, basis, load difference, percent difference, and the setup attached to a personal pair.
A value near parity does not mean every lifter should pull the same weight in both styles. Use a stable personal pair whenever possible and recalibrate after a meaningful technique or equipment change.
Worked Example
The study reference applied to a 200 lb conventional deadlift gives about 201.38 lb sumo. A personal 200 lb conventional and 210 lb sumo pair instead gives 1.0500, producing 231 lb from a 220 lb conventional input.
Common Mistakes
Do not apply the study mean automatically, use it for same-rep sets, add an unsupported body-proportion correction, or compare performances completed under different strap or lockout standards.
Assumptions and Limitations
The study factor is a ratio of group means, not a regression for an individual. The personal calculation is exact for the supplied pair but remains an estimate when transferred to another load.
