Calculate estimated back squat load from Bulgarian split squat external load, or reverse it, using a 2.2×–3.0× multiplier in kg or lb.

Bulgarian Split Squat to Back Squat Estimator

Enter a value in one field to estimate the other (uses a heuristic multiplier)

Tip: You can also use the range (2.2×–3.0×) shown in the results.

Example: if you hold 20 kg in each hand, enter 40 kg.

Results

Enter a value above and press Calculate.

Safety note: This calculator is a heuristic estimate and can vary widely by technique, depth, balance, equipment, and training background. Use conservative loading (often starting 10–20% below the estimate), progress gradually, and use safeties/spotters for back squats. Stop if you feel pain, dizziness, or unusual symptoms. If you have injuries, medical conditions, or are pregnant/postpartum, consult a qualified coach/clinician.

Bulgarian Split Squat to Back Squat Estimation Formula

The formula below provides a rough estimate of a comparable Back Squat load (BS) from a Bulgarian Split Squat external load (BSS). Because unilateral-to-bilateral transfer varies a lot between lifters, a range is more appropriate than a single fixed “equivalence.”

BS \approx BSS \times M,\quad M \approx 2.2\text{ to }3.0

Variables:

  • BS is the Back Squat load
  • BSS is the Bulgarian Split Squat total external load (barbell + plates, or both dumbbells combined; not bodyweight)
  • M is the multiplier (a rough assumption; commonly a mid-point like 2.6× is used)

To estimate Back Squat load, multiply your BSS external load by a multiplier M (often treated as ~2.2–3.0). To estimate BSS from a known Back Squat load, divide the Back Squat load by M.

How to Calculate Your Estimate

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Determine the total external load you use for Bulgarian Split Squats (barbell + plates, or both dumbbells combined) or your Back Squat load.
  2. Pick an assumption multiplier (M). A common rough range is about 2.2×–3.0× (mid-point ~2.6×).
  3. If starting from Bulgarian Split Squat load, estimate: Back Squat ≈ BSS × M.
  4. If starting from Back Squat load, estimate: BSS ≈ Back Squat ÷ M.
  5. Use the calculator above to compare a mid-point estimate and a range.

Example:

If your Bulgarian Split Squat external load is 50 kg (for example, 25 kg in each hand), then:

Estimated Back Squat range ≈ 50 × (2.2 to 3.0) = 110 to 150 kg (mid-point using 2.6× is 130 kg)
