Calculate total bed days available from bed count and a time period or date range, or solve for beds and duration in days, weeks, or months.
Bed Days Available Formula
Bed days available = average available staffed beds × days in the period. This is a capacity measure, not a count of occupied beds or patients.
The 7-, 30-, 90-, and 365-day choices are fixed planning conversions. Date-range mode counts both valid Gregorian dates and performs calendar arithmetic in UTC so daylight-saving changes do not add or remove a day.
Reverse Calculations
Average available staffed beds = bed days available ÷ period days. Period days = bed days available ÷ average available staffed beds. A reverse-solved bed value is an average over the selected period and may be fractional; a directly entered fixed bed count should be a positive whole number.
Example
An average of 20 available staffed beds over 30 days provides 600 bed days available. This describes potential capacity only.
Important Scope
Use the same bed definition and reporting scope throughout. Confirm whether temporarily unavailable beds are excluded under your organization’s reporting rules.
